My LighthouseThis one was inspired by one of my favorite songs, “My Lighthouse,” by one of my favorite bands, Rend Collective. I was going through a difficult time and this song and the thought of God being my center and my light helped me to regain my focus and get out of the pit I was falling into.Acrylic on canvas, 30x40
Micah 6:8I made the original of this as a gift for our preacher in Virginia Beach at Francis Asbury UMC, Pastor Ed Martin. I asked him what his favorite Bible verse was and this was it! What a great verse!
Hand ClaspIn addition to contemporary Christian music, I also love alternative rock and indie rock. Fitz and the Tantrums’ song, “Hand Clap” brought this image to my mind. I had been looking for the perfect way to include the Lord’s Prayer in one of my paintings and this was it! I love to see how I can parody secular songs into Christian songs (I’m a Weird Al fan too!)
Hebrews 6:19I really struggled with this verse for a long time. It was one of those that I just couldn’t make sense of for some reason. But one day when I read it, the idea of an upside down anchor came to my mind. Because this hope that we have is the hope of heaven, and so our anchor pulls us up, not down. The red balloon represents our soul, which becomes lighter than air when we put our hope in God rather than the world.
Family HandprintsThis was a gift for my parents’ 40th wedding anniversary. Each member of our family has a handprint with their birthday made into a palm tree for each family island.
